What is the FJGA?

Since its inception in 1939, the Flint Junior Golf Association has provided an opportunity for young golfers to participate in, learn and enjoy a game that they can play for a lifetime. The FJGA is a program for young golfers from 8 through 18 years old. The association is the oldest and one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a current membership of 400 junior golfers from Genesee County and surrounding areas.

The FJGA summer golf program is organized into four divisions: a 5-hole division for boys and girls aged 8 – 11, a 9-hole division for boys and girls aged 12 – 14, a hybrid division for boys and girls aged 13 – 18 who would like to play either 9 or 18 holes, and an 18-hole division for boys and girls aged 14 – 18 who are high school varsity players. Each division is split into groups. Click DIVISIONS for detail on our divisions and groups.

The entry fee is the only fee paid all year, and there are no additional weekly costs. This fee includes a bag tag, pre-season instructional clinics, and discounts on instruction during the season for those who would like to take advantage of opportunities for additional coaching.

FJGA provides positive life experiences for junior golfers through competitive golf while setting high standards to preserve the integrity and traditions of the game. The Flint Junior Golf Association is dedicated to the development of young men and women through competitive junior golf.

We are exposing young golfers to a leisure activity that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives, no matter their ability level. Golf teaches them discipline, respect, integrity and character through the structure and rules of the game. For example, golf is the only sport where participants call penalties on themselves. Golf also teaches other life skills like patience, good sportsmanship, and the ability to focus on the task at hand.

Our education of the game begins with introductory clinics recommended for 5-Hole players and those new to the FJGA program, and is followed with rule books, rule tests, literature on etiquette, and our parent and golfer expectations. We also offer discounts on lessons from local golf professionals to help those who are struggling and not having fun, or just want to sharpen their skills.

Reasons for Success

The success of our program is due to three factors:

  • The hospitality of the golf courses that host us at their facilities. Almost every public and private golf course in the county participates in the program with the heaviest burden falling on the two City of Flint courses which are both used every day of our program.

  • The dedication of our supervisors and rangers who work at the courses all day, along with many other volunteers who work hard to make things run smoothly.

  • The corporate sponsors and other contributors for their continued support, services and scholarship funding which enhance the quality of the FJGA program.
